Brian Souza

Chief Impact Officer, DentaQuest

When it comes to developing and implementing creative solutions to improve the health of our nation and reduce existing disparities, Brian Souza sets a high bar. Having worked with health care nonprofits for over two decades, Brian understands the importance of collaborating across disciplines, organizations, and communities. Brian brings his passion for health care, business acumen, and nonprofit expertise to oral disease and health disparities in his role as Chief Impact Officer at DentaQuest. Brian oversees a 70-person team that includes the DentaQuest Foundation, the DentaQuest Institute, DentaQuest Oral Health Center, and the Impact Integration Group.

Together with Mike Monopoli (Executive Director of the DentaQuest Foundation), Brian leads DentaQuest’s philanthropic strategy, investing $17 million annually at the national, state, and community levels to improve oral health. With Tequila Terry, (Executive Director of the DentaQuest Institute) and Dr. Brian Novy, (Director of Practice Improvement of the DentaQuest Institute) he leads DentaQuest’s clinical and quality improvement solutions, working to improve the delivery of person-centered oral health care through prevention and disease management. Lastly, working with the Impact Integration Group, Brian leads efforts to leverage internal and external innovation into DentaQuest’s benefits and care business products and services.

Prior to DentaQuest, Brian has served in a number of leadership roles in the health and social service sectors, including at the Boston Partnership for Older Adults, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Community Care Alliance, and Kit Clark Senior Services. Brian also serves on the board of Our Space, Our Place, an after-school program for blind youth, and the Farm-Direct Coop, a large community supported agriculture program in the Greater Boston area.

Brian holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Master of Social Work degree focused on non-profit management, both from Boston University.

 

 

Michael Monopoli, DMD, MPH, MS

Executive Director, DentaQuest Foundation

As Executive Director, Dr. Monopoli leads strategy development and grant making activities for the DentaQuest Foundation.

Dr. Michael Monopoli is a graduate of the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He received Master of Public Health and Master of Science degrees from the Harvard University School of Public Health in 1988. Dr. Monopoli also completed a fellowship in Geriatric Dentistry at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and the Veterans Administration in 1990. From 1995-2001, Dr. Monopoli served as the dental director of the Office of Oral Health for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. He is presently the Executive Director of the DentaQuest Foundation in Boston, MA. At the Foundation, Dr. Monopoli leads strategy development and grant making activities for the Foundation. Along with Foundation staff, Dr. Monopoli provides support to the growing Oral Health 2020 network. He also works across the DentaQuest enterprise and with external entities, including federal and state government agencies, academia, other health organizations, and community groups to establish, promote and provide support to partnerships and collaborations that can impact positive oral health policy nationally.

Dr. Monopoli is a past President of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry (AAPHD).

 

Marcia K. Brand, Ph.D.

Marcia K. Brand, Ph.D. is a Senior Advisor to the Dentaquest Foundation and the Executive Director of the National Interprofessional Initiative on Oral Health.

Marcia K. Brand, Ph.D. is a Senior Advisor to the Dentaquest Foundation and the Executive Director of the National Interprofessional Initiative on Oral Health. She has held a number of leadership positions in the Federal government and academics and currently serves as a consultant and advisor on matters related to access to oral and rural health care.  From 2009 until 2015, Dr. Brand was the Deputy Administrator of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), an Agency within the US Department of Health and Human Services that works to fill in the gaps for people who live outside the economic and medical mainstream.  The Agency uses its $10 billion annual budget to expand access to quality health care in partnership with health care providers and health professions training programs.   She held other leadership positions within HRSA, including associate administrator for the Bureau of Health professions and the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy.  Brand worked in the US Senate as a legislative assistant, and held academic appointments in the dental hygiene departments at Thomas Jefferson University and Old Dominion University.  She earned a doctoral degree in higher education from the University of Pennsylvania, and both master's and bachelor's degrees in dental hygiene from Old Dominion University.

Patrick Finnerty

Senior Advisor for State Oral Health Programs

Patrick Finnerty serves as the Foundation’s leadership resource to state coalitions and health organizations who are working to incorporate oral health into state policy and programs.

Patrick Finnerty serves as the Foundation’s leadership resource to state coalitions and health organizations who are working to incorporate oral health into state policy and programs. Mr. Finnerty has a long history with states and public health programs and a unique appreciation of the challenges they face. He is the former Medicaid Director for Virginia, managed the Virginia state employee health benefits program, and directed a legislative health policy commission. He holds Master of Public Administration and B.S. degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University. Pat is also a veteran volunteer at Mission of Mercy (MOM) projects throughout Virginia, which provide free dental care to thousands of uninsured adults.

Stacey Auger

Policy Consultant

Stacey worked at Massachusetts’ leading health care advocacy organization where she lead two statewide legislative advocacy coalitions - the Oral Health Advocacy Taskforce and the Children's Health Access Coalition.

Stacey Auger joined the DentaQuest Foundation in 2013 as a Policy Consultant.  Previously she was the Associate Director of ACTION Health Services, a comprehensive and innovative Health Care for the Homeless Federally Qualified Health Center in north central Massachusetts.  Prior to that, Stacey worked at Massachusetts’ leading health care advocacy organization, Health Care For All, where she led two statewide legislative advocacy coalitions -- the Oral Health Advocacy Taskforce and the Children's Health Access Coalition.  Stacey also served as the Co-Manager of the Oral Health Initiative of North Central Massachusetts, a large multi-year, multi-pronged initiative aimed at improving the oral health in north central Massachusetts through both programming and public policy changes. Stacey started her career at the Child Care Resource Center, Inc. in Cambridge where she worked for five years coordinating its Health Access Project, Public Action for Child Care Today Campaign (PACCT), the Cambridge Zero to Three Project, and the Caring for Babies Forum. Stacey holds a BA in Sociology from Simmons College and a Master's in Public Health from Boston University.

Grandy Cody

Managing Director

As Managing Director, Grandy oversees operations and administration in support of a common vision and mission for the Impact Division of DentaQuest which includes the Foundation, Institute, and the Impact Integration Group.

As Managing Director, Grandy oversees operations and administration in support of a common vision and mission for the Impact Division of DentaQuest which includes the Foundation, Institute, and the Impact Integration Group. Previously, Grandy served as the Manager of Programs and Operations for the DentaQuest Foundation.  Prior to DentaQuest, Grandy worked for local United Way organizations in Massachusetts Bay and Greater Cincinnati for 8 years, providing programming and management support to help educate, attract and retain United Way’s top donors.  Prior to United Way, Grandy served as a United States Peace Corps business consultant in Oradea, Romania helping local NGO’s develop business plans and secure grant funding.  She has a MBA and BBA from the University of Cincinnati. 

 

 

Matthew Bond

Director of Network Strategy

Matthew joined the DentaQuest Foundation in 2011 as a Grants and Programs Associate.

In his role as Director of Network Strategy, Matthw oversees the Foundation's role as backbone support for a national generative social impact network of more than 1,000 members, organized to transform healthcare to a fully person-centered, health outcomes-driven system. Matthew previously served as Grants and Programs Manager, working to develop stronger connections with grantees and partners and implement Foundation program strategy. Prior to that, he was in the role of Grants and Programs Associate. Before joining the DentaQuest Foundation in 2011, Matthew was the Manager of Client Services for Ellipsis Enterprises, a grant-funded academic publishing and meeting planning consultant, where he worked closely with foundations to plan and implement symposia and conferences. Matthew also served as an editor on six multi-author, cross-disciplinary volumes spanning such topics as the future of physics, and the nature of infinity.

 

Matthew is currently a PhD student at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, where his research interests are focused on how social change strategies results in public policy that promotes great social justice. Matthew received a Master of Public Administration from the Institute of Public Service at Suffolk University's Sawyer Business School. He also holds a dual degree in Philosophy and Political Science from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Trenae Simpson

Grants and Programs Manager

Trenae first joined the Foundation team in 2014 as a Grants and Programs Associate.

Trenae currently serves as Grants and Programs Manager for the DentaQuest Foundation. Trenae joined the team in 2014 as a Grants and Programs Associate. In this role, Trenae worked to develop stronger connections with grantees and partners to support the implementation of Foundation program strategy. Before joining the DentaQuest Foundation, Trenae was a Research Assistant at the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship, a membership organization that provides professional development opportunities and knowledge resources for corporate citizenship practitioners. She contributed to monthly blogs and the development of the Center’s knowledge tools. Trenae has a Bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and an MBA in Leadership and Management from Boston College.

Nadia Prokofieva

Grants and Programs Associate

Nadia provides program support to grantees and partner organizations woking on the goals of the Oral Health 2020 campaign.

Nadia joined the DentaQuest Foundation in May 2014. As the Grants and Programs Associate, she provides program support to the Foundation’s grantees and partner organizations and supports the implementation of the Oral Health 2020 initiative. Most recently, Nadia was the Program Manager at the Massachusetts Biotechnology Education Foundation. While there, her work focused on managing science education programs, development activities, and financial reporting. Prior to that, Nadia worked at the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research at the City University of New York, where she coordinated special research projects supporting the research mission of the University. A graduate of the University of Eastern Finland, Nadia earned her B.A. and M.A. in Social Sciences, majoring in Human Geography and minoring in Public Policy and Environmental Sciences. She also holds a fundraising certificate from New York University.

Andrew Bishop

Andrew joined the DentaQuest Foundation in 2015 as Grants and Programs Associate, supporting the foundation’s emerging grassroots engagement strategy.

Andrew joined the DentaQuest Foundation in 2015 as Grants and Programs Associate, supporting the foundation’s emerging grassroots engagement strategy. Prior to joining the DentaQuest Foundation he worked with Compassion & Choices, the nation’s largest and oldest nonprofit advocacy organization working to improve end-of-life care. Andrew previously served as Program Consultant with Baptist Healing Trust, a health-legacy grantmaking foundation that awards over $5 million annually to nonprofits that focus on increasing healthcare access and emphasis compassionate care for vulnerable populations in Middle Tennessee. Andrew earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Massachusetts Boston, specializing in Nonprofit Management, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Entrepreneurship from Belmont University in Nashville, TN. He also sits on the Board of Advisors for the Massachusetts Sustainable Business Academy and actively volunteers in the greater Boston community.

Katie Leonard

Communications Manager
As communications manager, Katie develops and implements communication strategies for DentaQuest's Impact Division.

Katie began working for the DentaQuest Foundation in 2014. As communications manager, Katie's job is to manage communications to both internal and external audiences, highlighting the impact of the Foundation's grantees and working to engage new partners, all of whom are working collaboratively with the Foundation to advance the mission of improving oral health for all. Prior to joining the Foundation team, she was an account executive for Delta Dental of Massachusetts. Katie previously worked for the BELL Foundation and the Essex County (Massachusetts) District Attorney's Office. She is an active volunteer with Housing Families, an organization dedicated to providing support services to families facing housing instability. Katie received her M.A. in Journalism from Emerson College's School of Communications and a B.A. in English from Providence College.

Liana DiRamio

Grants and Programs Coordinator

Liana joined the DentaQuest Foundation team in 2016 after beginning her career in healthcare technology.

Liana joined the DentaQuest Foundation in 2016 as Grants and Programs Coordinator, where she is responsible for the coordination and support of the DentaQuest Foundation grants management process and team.  Prior to joining the DentaQuest Foundation, Liana’s experience was primarily within the healthcare technology field, most recently working at MEDITECH in the Marketing and Client Services divisions.  In her role as Marketing Support Representative, Liana was responsible for providing guidance on software solutions for clients in the nursing and long-term care industries, as well as keeping clients informed and updated on best practices and regulations within a rapidly changing healthcare environment. Liana received her BA in Communication from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

 

Jessica Spry

Events and Administrative Coordinator

Jessica joined the DentaQuest Foundation in 2016 as the Events and Administrative Coordinator.

Jessica joined the DentaQuest Foundation in 2016 as the Events and Administrative Coordinator.  She works closely with the Manager of Programs and Operations, the grants team, and other partners to plan and execute DentaQuest Foundation and Oral Health 2020 convenings, as well as manage finances and other internal operations.  Prior to working at the DentaQuest  Foundation, Jessica worked to plan events and conferences in and around the Boston area. She received her bachelor's degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.  

Brenda Coccuzzo

Executive Assistant

Brenda Coccuzzo serves as an Executive Assistant with the DentaQuest Foundation and provides program support to the Funders Group for Oral Health and the National Interprofessional Initiative on Oral Health.
